Redwan Bin Abdul Baten

Health & Safety Chair

Hi! I am Redwan Bin Abdul Baten, a third year PhD student at the Department of Health Management
and Policy (HMP) of the College of Public Health. I am an international student and come from Dhaka,
Bangladesh. I obtained my Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh and Master of Public Health (MPH) from the North South University, Bangladesh.

I am an aspiring Health Economer and a Global Health Junkie. My research interests are – rural health, global health, immigrant health, student health, long term care etc.

This year I am serving as the Health and Safety Chair, Graduate and Professional Student Government
(GPSG); Chair of Graduate and Professional Panel, International Student Advisory Board (ISAB) and
Treasurer, Bangladeshi Students Association (BSA) of the University of Iowa. Previously I have served as
an Ambassador of the College of Public Health and Vice President of AcademyHealth Student Chapter of the University of Iowa.

As Health and Safety Chair of GPSG, my plan is very simple: To keep the students very healthy and very
safe! To achieve that, I aim to focus on: 1) Covid-19 response; 2) Student Mental Health and 3) Research
oriented approach towards Student Health and Safety.

My free time is spent with my loving wife, toddler son and newborn daughter.
