Walt Wang

Vice President

Hi. I am Walt Wang, a fourth-year PharmD/MPH student at the University of Iowa. I am honored and humbled to serve as the Vice President for the Graduate and Professional Student Government.

In my role as Vice President, I hope to build a community dedicated to the advancement of teamwork and collaboration among students, faculty, staff, and the University administration. I believe we can unite around common causes as we work to build a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment. In my term as Vice President, I plan to focus on a number of key issues: (1) continuing the advancement of DEI causes, (2) expanding the representation of students on key University decision-making, and (3) maximizing the community feedback to serve as a better voice for those we represent.

As a student at the College of Pharmacy and College of Public Health, I have been involved with many organizations, providing me invaluable experiences for working together on student government. I served some notable organizations, including the Student National Pharmaceutical Association and Phi Delta Chi Professional Pharmacy Fraternity. I have also had the great honor to serve as the GPAC Director for the 2020-2021 academic year. I have been blessed with the opportunities to serve as a voice for students on committees with both the Iowa Pharmacy Association and the Iowa Public Health Association as I seek to bring the student perspective to the discussions.

From my time serving in GPSG, I believe there are many necessary changes needed to maintain the Constitution. I plan to lead in the formation of a GPSG committee in reviewing and proposing changes to the current Constitution and by-laws for both GPSG and GPAC. In addition, I believe our representation of Graduate and Professional students can only be as strong as the number of voices we unite. As such, I plan to help the many underrepresented constituency groups gain a voice by developing the implementation of the GPSG Constituency Liaison Act.

If anyone has any ideas for how GPSG can better serve the Graduate and Professional student community, please reach out to me, so we can schedule a meeting and discuss the most optimal implementation of those plans.

Thank you very much. I look forward to working together with you.
