Artificial Intelligence Lightning Talks

This event, offered online via Teams, will feature several short talks (3-5 minutes) about how faculty, students and staff at the University of Iowa are using artificial intelligence.

The talks serve as a platform for learning and innovation as artificial intelligence rapidly transforms the technological landscape.

The presenters for this month are:

  • Ross Miller, Lead Application Developer, Administrative Information Systems (AIS), on Teaching your AI Skills with Model Context Protocol (MCP)

  • Paras Gaur, Postdocotoral Fellow, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, on from Pipettes to Prompts: How AI Streamlines My Research Flow

  • David Frisvold, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, on An Example Writing Assignment using AI in an Upper-Level Graduate Course

  • Tory Brecht, Communications Coordinator and Assistant Editor for Tippie Publication, Tippie College of Business, on Using AI Effectively and Ethically in Article Generation – As It Relates to Sharing Research Stories

  • Tony Pennuto, Research Associate, Department of Orthopedics, on AI Assist Schedulers Finding the Correct Provider

The goals are to: 

  • Share knowledge and insights about the latest AI trends, tools, best practices, and practical uses of AI. 

  • Encourage collaboration and cross-pollination of ideas across campus. 

  • Inspire innovative applications of AI.
