Artificial Intelligence Lightning Talks

This event, offered online via Teams, will feature several short talks (3-5 minutes) about how faculty, students and staff at the University of Iowa are using artificial intelligence.

The talks serve as a platform for learning and innovation as artificial intelligence rapidly transforms the technological landscape.

The presenters for this month are:

  • Claire McGranahan, Director for Collegiate Communications in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, on Ethical Use of AI in Daily Communications

  • Jill Kolesar, PharmD, MS, FCCP, Dean, Professor and Jean M. Schmidt Chair in Drug Discovery in the College of Pharmacy, on AI-Enabled Letter of Support

  • Elizabeth Crawford, Visiting Assistant Professor, Rhetoric in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, on Teaching AI in the Rhetoric Department

  • AnnaKate Hartel, Senior Data Analyst, Graduate and Professional Programs, Tippie College of Business on Strategic Prioritization through AI: Making Sense of Competing Rankings

  • Reneé Cole, Department Executive Officer and Chair Professor, Chemistry in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, on Using AI Tutors to Provide Just-In-Time Student Support

The goals are to: 

  • Share knowledge and insights about the latest AI trends, tools, best practices, and practical uses of AI. 

  • Encourage collaboration and cross-pollination of ideas across campus. 

  • Inspire innovative applications of AI.
