Over 100 lawyers and judges from around the state participate in this event. The annual Cady Cup Tournament is an event for alumni, faculty, staff, and students of the University of Iowa College of Law and Drake Law School. All are invited to participate—regardless of skill level—to show support for their law school and raise funds for Iowa Legal Aid. The Cady Cup, formerly known as the Dean's Cup, was renamed in 2019 in honor of the late Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Cady, LW'78.

The event includes two formats: match play and best shot. A lawyer who is not a graduate of either law school may participate in the best shot format by declaring temporary allegiance to one of the two schools at the time of registration.

The proceeds from the event go to support Iowa Legal Aid, which provided Hope Dignity and Justice to 34,394 Iowans, including 14,263 children, in 2025. The registration fee is partially tax deductible.
