Presentation Description:
One hundred years ago this summer, newly graduated Beloit College student Paul Nesbitt excavated a cave near Maquoketa, Iowa. But soon, the dig and the resulting collection were forgotten. Not until the 21st century was the excavation and the associated material rediscovered, analyzed, and published. This presentation explores the history, findings, and significance of Nesbitt's work, not just to eastern Iowa but also to cave archaeology in general.
