Join the Center for Intellectual Freedom in welcoming Wilfred McClay to the University of Iowa for a keynote presentation on the freedom of speech as part of our America 250 Speaker Series!

In a lecture titled "Singularity of Words" Wilfred McClay will give important insights on the uniqueness of speech relative to other kinds of expression and will hold a brief Q&A discussion.

Wilfred McClay - "There is much contention and discord today about the proper place of free speech in our colleges and universities. I believe that part of the confusion may be overcome by recurring to the first principles and recovering a clearer sense of the larger ends that freedom of speech is meant to serve. The key to doing so, I believe, is a fresh recognition of the very special and singular thing that speech is, and why it should be distinguished from other forms of human expression."

Wilfred M. McClay is an author, historian and professor who holds the Victor Davis Hanson Chair in Classical History and Western Civilization at Hillsdale College.

All are welcome to attend and registration is recommended. Seating and dinner service is limited to 40 guests. Admittance to the event will be given first to those who pre-registered, with non-registered guests being admitted until capacity has been reached.
