Several committees are seeking nominations for graduate and professional student members. See below for a list of committees, whether they have an opening for a graduate or professional student, and their functions. Opportunities for Graduate Students:

 

The Graduate Student Employment Committee (GSEC) was formed in 2017 to provide recommendations to institutional leadership in matters related to graduate student employment benefits (outside of wages).  The committee is comprised of nine graduate student seats confirmed by the Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG) and Graduate Student Senate (GSS) bodies, two faculty members appointed by Faculty Senate, and one administrator. Together this group works to clarify policy, discuss changes to benefits and work to improve equitable employment among graduate students.

 

The Presidential Committee on Athletics is the advisory committee for the university President and the Director of Athletics on policies governing the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consistent with the rules of the Big Ten Conference and the National Collegiate Athletics Association and consistent with the policies of the university, the Board of Regents, and the State of Iowa. In addition to its duty to advise and recommend policies to the university President and Athletics Director, the Committee periodically apprises the faculty, staff, and student constituency organizations of the status of athletics at the university and nationally.

 

The Sustainability Committee recommends and advises on matters pertaining to sustainability practices and formulation of university policies, including integration of sustainability with existing campus programs and development and implementation of campus sustainability action plans.

 

Opportunities for Professional Students:

 

The Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion serves as an advisory body for policies and guidelines that impact faculty, staff, and students. This committee acts as a forum for questions and recommendations concerning DEI related policies and procedures. 

 

The Committee on Financial Aid Advisory reviews and makes recommendations to the President regarding all forms of student financial aid and assists the Office of Student Financial Aid or other university office administering financial aid in communicating all financial aid policies to the university community.
