Graduate and Professional Student Government is the shared governance branch at the University of Iowa that represents the interests of graduate and professional students to university administrators, state and federal legislators, and our campus community. GPSG seeks to maximize the experience of graduate and professional students at Iowa. Each spring, elections are held to determine the executives for the following academic year.
This year, due to COVID-19 precautions and university guidance about social distancing, the elections will take place virtually as a part of the April GPSG meeting. Each candidate for a position will be invited to participate in a Zoom meeting where they will present their interest in running for a particular position before the delegates vote on the candidates.
This year's election meeting is Tuesday, April 14, 2020, tentatively beginning at 7 PM CST. Candidates will be provided more detailed information about logistics as the date nears.
There are seven executive vacancies, as follows:

  • President (per GPSG constitution must be a professional student for 2020-21)
  • Vice President (must be a graduate student for 2020-21)
  • Chief of Staff (graduate or professional)
  • Chief Financial Officer (graduate or professional)
  • Grants Director (graduate or professional)
  • Communications Director (graduate or professional)
  • GPAC Chair (graduate or professional)
Each executive position earns a once per semester stipend based which varies based on position.

There are five committee chair vacancies, which may be held by a graduate or professional student:
Information about each position and its responsibilities can be found in this Description of GPSG Officer and Chair Positions document.
