Emily Schmitz

Sustainability Director
Biography

Hi. My name is Emily, and I will be serving as the GPSG Sustainability Director and as a senator for GSS. I am from Austin, Texas and received my B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. I am currently a fourth-year PhD student in the Water and the Environment Program in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. My research focus is the use of bacteria to treat pollution from agricultural sources. I am deeply committed to science education, outreach, and sustainability and am a member of several organizations both on and off campus to meet this goal. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with friends, exploring hiking trails nearby, and playing board games.

As sustainability chair my mission is to continue to support existing projects and partnerships, implement sustainable waste management strategies and reduce production of waste on campus through investing in recycling and reuse initiatives.
