Bethanny Sudibyo

Interprofessional Director
Biography

My name is Bethanny Sudibyo and I currently am pursuing my Ph.D. in Spanish Literature in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. I am from Jogjakarta, Indonesia, and I hold an M.A. in Spanish from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and a B.A. in Spanish from Wenzao University of Languages, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. My main research area is 19th-century Peninsular Literature and Global Hispanophone Studies, specifically cultural productions from the Spanish Philippines. My research interest includes the intersectionality of race and gender within the empire along with representations of clothing and fashion in literature. I also love learning languages and I speak Indonesian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Chinese. When I'm not doing school work, I usually trail skate at local parks in Iowa City or spend time sewing garments at home. Serving as Interprofessional Director, I hope to further cultivate the graduate and professional student community through professional development, networking, and social activities.
