James Miller

Government Relations Director
Biography

I’m James R Miller and I’m a third-year law student (3L) serving as the Director of Governmental Relations for GPSG. I’m originally from Iowa and have spent most of my whole life here. I earned my bachelor’s degree in 2018 from the University of Northern Iowa in Philosophy, with an emphasis on early American Political Philosophy and the foundation of the United States Constitution. Additionally, I received a program certificate in Computer Science.

Before attending law school, I worked both for non-profit political organizations and as a paralegal in law firms representing government and municipal entities. After beginning at law school, I have worked for both the state and federal government, spending my 1L summer working for the Iowa Civil Rights Commission and working with the Department of Navy Office of Equal Employment Opportunity since last September. I am continuing this work in the federal government into the fall, spending the Fall 2024 semester in Washington DC.

My first year at the university of Iowa I served on the Governmental Relations committee, and last year I served as the GPSG Communications Director. Between my time working in various roles within GPSG and my time spent working with government in a professional capacity, I have been able to build up skills and connections that I hope to use to advocate for students and address student concerns.
