My name is Michael N Johnson III, and I am a PhD Student in the Department of Teaching and Learning in the  Mathematics Education program. My work at the University centers around Mathematics Teacher Education, including teaching content courses for pre-service teachers and student teaching supervision at local school districts. My research interests center on how students relearn mathematics from theory to practice.  

I received my Associate's degree from Grand Rapids Community College; Bachelor's in Mathematics and Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics from Indiana University (and 5-12 licensure). Inspired by my experience as a first-generation, non-traditional, community college graduate, I served as Principal Investigator on an NSF grant that funded OURFA2M2 in 2022.

While working on my master's at Indiana, I served as the Mathematics Department GPSG representative and Union Rep. Currently, I serve as the Union Steward and Graduate Student Senator for my department, and as the Financial Officer for the Campaign to Organize Graduate Students. 

My favorite animal is a red panda, and my main hobbies are photography (film and digital) and birding.
