2021 GPSG Elections flyer, continue reading for text version

Now's your chance to share your vision, talents, and energy to represent and advocate on behalf of all graduate and professional students at the University of Iowa! GPSG elections for officer and committee chair positions will be held virtually on Sunday, April 18, 2021, starting at 6pm. All candidate applications are due by 11:59pm CT on Tuesday, April 13.

GPSG Positions

The following officer and chair positions will be elected (see bulleted list below). Click here to view the GPSG Constitution and scroll to pages 5–8 to read the position descriptions for each.

President/VP - In accordance with GPSG's Constitution, the role of the President and VP are to alternate between a graduate student and professional student. For the 2021–22 year, the President shall be a graduate student and the VP shall be a professional student. Dual degree students (such as MD/PhD or JD/MPH for example) may satisfy conditions as both a grad and professional student.

However, in the case where no student a part of the priority category (graduate or professional) for the term applies, students from the other category will be considered. For example, if no professional students have applied for Vice President by the time candidate applications are due, graduate students who have applied for the position may be considered.

In short: graduate students can apply for Vice President, but acknowledge their candidacy will not be considered unless no professional students have applied and are able to fulfill the role. Likewise, professional students can apply for President, but acknowledge their candidacy will not be considered unless no graduate students have applied.

If you have questions related to this, please contact mackensie-graham@uiowa.edu.

Terms - Terms for all officer and committee chair positions run from May 2021 through April 2022.

Stipend - All positions receive a small stipend in exchange for active service. FY21 budget allocated $500/semester to committee chairs; $750/semester to directors and GPAC chair; $1,500/semester for president and vice president.
